what are figs? and do you recommend doing it?
im totally confused about what it is..

figs are freshman interest groups, definitely do it!! Do a residential fig.
Okay so what it is, is there is like a list of figs that you can choose from, they're two classes that you take with the same group of people. So even though the classes are 500 people, you have a group of 30 or so that are in both classes with you. In addition to the two classes, you have a little like, "college connections" fig class. The professor from one of your two fig classes is in charge of it, as well as an upperclassman that is like the camp counselor of the group. If you're in a residential fig you'll live in the same hall as all the people in your fig (as well as the upperclassman, they're called FAs, fig advisors, and act as sort of RAs). It's a good way to meet people and to know people in your classes so you have studybuddies. The fig professor is also great too.. mine took us on like, a walking tour of Eugene and was a great resource as to like, college work and study habits. I was in Human Nature A and really liked it, I would definitely be in a fig!
